The award is called the Silver Snoopy!

Since 1968, NASA has been sending tiny silver Snoopy pins into space. But not for the astronauts to keep. They are brought back to Earth and given to the people behind the scenes who helped make the mission safe. The award is called the Silver Snoopy. It is one of NASA’s most personal honors. Engineers. Technicians. Safety teams. And other workers whose efforts directly contributed to mission success can be chosen to receive one. Every awarded pin has actually flown in space. And only a NASA astronaut can present it. Recipients even get a letter telling them which mission their specific pin flew on. Fewer than 1% of eligible workers receive one each year. So somewhere on Earth, there are people wearing tiny Snoopy pins that have traveled into space before they ever reached them. A small piece of silver. A real trip beyond Earth. And NASA’s way of saying: You helped bring us home safely.
