Once there was an Englishman who planned to sail by ship from Ireland to England. He was just about to board when he suddenly slipped, fell, and broke his leg. There was no choice but to stay behind on shore.
His friends felt sorry for him and tried to comfort him, but through the pain he smiled and said,
“Don’t worry about me. I have a feeling this setback will turn out to be a blessing.”
And it did. The very ship he was meant to sail on was later caught in a terrible disaster and sank at sea. His injury and forced delay had quietly saved his life.
That’s how it often works in life. Some losses and hardships don’t come to punish us, but to protect us from something far worse.
Sometimes what feels like God blocking our plans is actually God keeping us from a path that would have broken us.
