True friend(s)!
In France, in a quiet, charming town, a very wealthy man passed away. He had no family—no children, no siblings, no nephews or nieces. Naturally, everyone wondered who would inherit his fortune. Millions are no small matter.
Before his death, the man left behind two wills. The first was to be opened immediately after his passing. The second was to be read only after the burial.
The first will contained just one unusual request:
“I ask to be buried at four o’clock in the morning.”
People were surprised, but they honored his final wish. In the dim light before dawn, through wet grass and morning mist, only five people walked to the cemetery. Five close friends who were not afraid of the hour, the darkness, or the cold.
After the burial, the second will was read. It said:
“All of my assets—bank accounts, property, and valuables—are to be divided equally among those who came to see me off on my final journey.”
🕯️
The lesson is simple and deeply moving:
A true friend is not the one who sits next to you at a celebration, but the one who will show up at four in the morning, in rain and fog—not for an inheritance, but out of love and respect.
