Hua Moa Banana - Heaviest bananas!
If you think you know bananas, wait until you see the Hua Moa—a thick, creamy fruit growing up to 10 inches long with orange-pink flesh that tastes like vanilla ice cream.
Meet the Hua Moa banana, a rare Hawaiian fruit that has been quietly growing in tropical gardens and has recently taken the internet by storm. This oversized banana can reach up to 10 inches long and 4 inches wide, with a thick, almost melon-like shape. Inside, the flesh is a creamy orange-pink color, and people describe its taste as sweet, rich, and almost like vanilla ice cream. Unlike common bananas, it is so versatile that you can eat it raw when fully ripe or cook it like a plantain when it is still green.
The Hua Moa has a deep history rooted in the Pacific Islands, especially Hawaii and Tahiti, where it was carried by canoe hundreds of years ago. It was brought to Florida in 1960 and became popular among Cuban communities in Miami. It is now considered a rare and endangered fruit, listed on the Slow Food Ark of Taste, which means it needs help to survive. Farmers in both Hawaii and South Florida are still growing it, but the fruit is hard to find in most supermarkets.
The fruit ripens from June to December, and when fully soft, its creamy texture makes it perfect for eating fresh or adding to smoothies and desserts. Whether you bake it with cinnamon and sugar or fry it into crispy chips, this banana is a true tropical treasure.
