Calf-muscle exercise!
Your calf muscles do more than help you walk, run, and climb stairs. They also play an important role in helping blood return from your lower legs toward your heart.
Every time your calf muscles contract, they squeeze nearby veins and help move blood upward. This natural mechanism is often called the calf muscle pump.
Spending long hours sitting or standing can leave your legs feeling tired or heavy. Simple movements like walking, ankle pumps, and calf raises can activate the muscles in your lower legs and support normal circulation.
Calf raises are easy to add to your daily routine, and you don’t need any gym equipment.
Start with 10 to 20 slow repetitions. Stand with your feet about hip-width apart, lift your heels, pause briefly at the top, and lower them with control. Use a wall or sturdy surface for balance if needed.
You can do them in the morning, during a break from sitting, or after a long day at work. They don’t have to be done right before bed.
Remember, calf raises are not a treatment for circulation problems. Persistent swelling, pain, or unusual changes in your legs should be checked by a healthcare professional.
Small movements throughout the day can make staying active much easier.
