Car-headlights blazing the AIRSTRIP!

The nearest hospital was 280 miles away. There were no roads out of town. And the runway lights were dead. A child in Igiugig, Alaska needed emergency evacuation. A neighbor named Ida Nelson made 32 phone calls. Within minutes, the entire village of 68 people showed up in their pajamas, drove every vehicle to the airstrip, and lined them along the runway with headlights blazing. The medevac pilot landed safely. The child made it to Anchorage. Nobody had ever practiced this. Nobody was trained. They just showed up.
