Glowing plants!
Chinese biotechnology company Magicpen Bio has successfully engineered over twenty plant species to emit natural bioluminescence.
By splicing light-producing genes from fireflies and luminous fungi into plants like orchids and sunflowers, researchers have created living, sustainable light sources.
This organic breakthrough relies entirely on regular water and soil nutrients to function, bypassing the need for electrical grids in outdoor landscaping.
Founder Dr. Li Renhan hopes this eco-friendly innovation will eventually replace conventional streetlamps, aiming to drastically reduce urban energy consumption.
Recently unveiled at the Zhongguancun Forum, these botanical marvels offer a glimpse into a zero-emission future where sustainable biotechnology transforms city nightlife.
