Largest moving man-made object in history!
Imagine a ship so enormous it couldn’t even fit through the English Channel or the Suez Canal.
The Seawise Giant — later renamed Knock Nevis — stretched an unbelievable 1,504 feet (458 meters) long 📏, making it longer than the Empire State Building is tall 🏙️
Built in 1979 🛠️, this colossal supertanker could carry more than 4 million barrels of crude oil 🛢️ — around 5% of the world’s daily oil consumption in a single voyage 🌍
At the time, it became the largest moving man-made object in history 🏆
Its draft was so deep 🌊 that it could only travel through the widest and deepest waters on Earth.
🛳️ Because of its gigantic size, it was unable to pass through either the English Channel or the Suez Canal.
The ship’s massive steel hull, multiple watertight compartments, and backup safety systems made it incredibly resilient 🛡️
Even in a worst-case scenario, it would have taken enormous force, precise strikes, and a lot of time to seriously damage or sink it ⚠️
With a trained crew 👨✈️ and onboard fire-control systems 🔥, the ship could survive and recover from significant damage.
Retired in 2009 ⏳, the Seawise Giant remains one of the greatest engineering achievements in maritime history 🌊⚙️ — a true giant of the seas.
