Congress won record 414 seats in 1984!

Congress had won record 414 seats in 1984 general elections. This was the era of extreme popularity and power of Rajiv Gandhi. Rajiv Gandhi became Prime Minister after Indira Gandhi's assassination and Congress gained huge majority in December 1984 elections. A total of 414 seats, which is the biggest ever majority of any party in Indian electoral history. This era was also the beginning of their vision of "Modern India" which established them as young, honest and progressive leaders. Rajiv visited the whole country, held hundreds of rallies and gave Congress an unprecedented victory just after Indira Gandhi's assassination. The main task of Rajiv Gandhi's Prime Minister period was to lay the foundation of information technology, computer and telecom revolution. He is considered the father of India's computers and communication revolution. He launched several technology missions parallel and started a mission to modernize the country by bringing experts like Sam Pitroda. Earlier the telephone was a thing of the rich, with Rajiv's efforts it reached common people, especially rural India. It made it easier to exchange business, government operations and information, which later formed the strong foundation of India's IT and BPO industry (companies like Infosys, Wipro). Today's Digital India is the gift of this. After Rajiv Gandhi became the Prime Minister in 1984, India's telecommunication revolution was laid. At that time, India had only 20-25 lakh telephones, which were mainly limited to cities. It was very difficult and expensive to install a telephone, the rural areas were almost cut by it. Sam Pitroda's arrival in the telecommunication revolution was very important. They were successful telecom engineers in America. When he came to India in 1981 he saw the country's poor telecom system and decided to change. Indira Gandhi had contact at the time, but Pitroda was made a consultant in 1984 on Rajiv Gandhi became Prime Minister. In August 1984, C-DOT (Centre for Development of Telematics) was established in the country. It was an autonomous organization, which aimed at developing indigenous digital telephone exchange in India. Pitroda became its founder and first chief. C-DOT reduced dependence on foreign technology and created affordable technology to suit Indian conditions such as heat, dust, electricity problem. Small and large digital exchanges developed in the country (Rural Automatic Exchanges - RAX). Telephone exchanges were also imposed in the villages. C-DOT made India self-reliant. A separate company Metropolitan Telephone Corporation Limited (MTNL) was established to improve telephone services in metropolis like Delhi and Mumbai. This made services fast and efficient. Foreign Communications Corporation Limited (VSNL) was established for International Telecommunications. This made foreign contact easier. Subscriber Trunk Dialing (STD) and Public Call Offices (PCO) booths were heavily expanded during this period. PCO booths opened in villages, where common man could make STD calls cheaply. It was the most visible shift that became strict connecting rural India to the outside world. Rajiv Gandhi created a telecom commission in 1989, which gave autonomy. This could apply the policies faster. Duty reduced on computer import. Technology missions started. Computerization started in government departments. This resulted in a rapid increase in telephone connections. Increased communication facility in rural areas helped business, health, education etc. Later the strong foundation of IT and BPO industry was laid. Today's Digital India Revolution is the gift of this. The revolution was completely based on government efforts, but privatization in the 1990s and mobile phones after 2000 pushed it further. Rajiv Gandhi's contribution was of vision. He dreamt of "passing technology to the common man" and started it. India is among the leading countries in the IT sector due to the visionary decision taken during that period. .................. Today, May 21st, as we remember you, a mixture of deep pain and pride emerges in the heart. At the age of just 40, you dreamt of taking care of the country and taking India towards the modern age. Your vision was — a strong, prosperous and progressive India. On 21 May 1991 you sacrificed your highest sacrifice for the country. But your ideology, your energy and your dream are still alive today. Hundreds of salutations to the architect of modern India, great patriot, very simple and visionary leader Rajiv ji on his martyrdom day. 💐💐 May Rajiv Gandhi remain immortal. Hail Mother India. 🇮🇳🙏
