Tax relaxation for Americans!

Jeff Bezos says the bottom 50% of Americans should pay no federal income tax. In a recent interview, Bezos argued that lower-earning Americans should be allowed to keep more of their money. His reasoning was that the bottom half of earners contribute a relatively small share of total federal income-tax revenue, so removing that burden could make a meaningful difference in their lives. He also said he would advocate for the idea with President Trump. But there is an important detail. This is not current law. It is a proposal. And many lower-income Americans already pay little or no federal income tax after credits, but they may still pay payroll taxes, state taxes, sales taxes, rent-related costs, and other taxes.
