Starting in 2027, Europe is forcing tech giants to rethink smartphones, because every device will need a battery you can swap out yourself. According to Olive Press, the European Union has passed Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, which requires all mobile phones and tablets sold in the bloc to have user‑replaceable batteries. This means consumers will be able to remove and replace batteries themselves using simple tools like screwdrivers, instead of relying on specialized equipment or costly repairs.
