Crime prevention color balls!

n Japan, convenience store workers have a secret weapon: giant paint-filled balls called “crime prevention color balls.” If someone tries to rob the store, the clerk can throw one at the thief. The ball bursts on impact, covering the person in bright, permanent orange or red dye that’s almost impossible to wash off quickly. It doesn’t stop the robbery, but it makes the criminal super easy to spot later on camera or in the street, so police can catch them fast. This low-tech method has been in use since the 1980s and remains a standard crime-prevention measure in Japanese retail
