The Peacock Throne, Delhi – The Crown of Mughal Grandeur!
Jewels of Hindustan: Royal Treasures | The Peacock Throne, Delhi – The Crown of Mughal Grandeur ꧂ .
There was a time when Hindustan did not just possess wealth-it displayed it to the world with unmatched splendour.
In the early 17th century, under Shah Jahan, the Mughal court witnessed the creation of one of the most extraordinary objects ever made-the Peacock Throne, or Takht-e-Taus. The same emperor who gave us the Taj Mahal envisioned a throne that would mirror paradise itself.
Crafted between 1628 and 1635, this masterpiece was built of gold and set with hundreds of precious stones drawn from across the world-diamonds of Golconda, emeralds, and rubies of exceptional quality. At its back stood two magnificent peacocks, their fanned tails shimmering with sapphires, emeralds, and rubies, giving the throne its immortal name. Between them rose a jewel-studded tree, often seen as a symbol of life and eternity.
