Mahaan Desh!

In West Bengal, a shocking discrepancy in the electoral roll recently came to light during a Supreme Court hearing. The Election Commission revealed that in the Barabani constituency of Asansol, a single man was listed as the father of 389 different voters. Similarly, in Howrah’s Bally area, another individual was recorded as the father of 310 voters. These massive errors were discovered during a “Special Intensive Revision” (SIR) of the voter list. While the numbers suggest something impossible, officials clarify that these are “logical discrepancies”—essentially major data entry blunders or technical glitches in the system. The Election Commission is now issuing notices to verify these records and clean up the list, as such errors raise serious concerns about the accuracy of the voter database ahead of upcoming elections.
