Athabasca Falls, Jasper National Park, Canada!
Athabasca Falls, Jasper National Park — right off the Icefields Parkway, and one of the easiest stops on the whole drive. Short walk from the parking lot, and then the river just drops out from under you.
What gets you isn't the height, it's the force. The whole Athabasca River squeezes through a narrow canyon and it sounds like the mountain is coming apart — you feel it in your chest before you even reach the railing. I stood there longer than I planned.
If you're driving the Parkway, this is the stop you don't skip. Ten minutes off the road for the most power-per-step of anything I saw out there.
Have you been here? Tell me what I missed. If you haven't been here, do these photos make you want to go?— at Athabasca Falls.
