Indian king mocked by Rolls-Royce salesman!
The story is one of the most famous tales associated with Maharaja Jai Singh II of Alwar, but historians have never found solid evidence that it happened exactly as described.
According to the legend, the Maharaja visited a Rolls-Royce showroom in London during the 1920s while dressed modestly.
A salesman allegedly assumed he was poor and treated him disrespectfully.
Offended, the ruler revealed his identity and immediately purchased several Rolls-Royce cars.
The story claims that after the vehicles arrived in India, he ordered municipal workers to use them for collecting garbage and sweeping streets.
News of the humiliation supposedly spread worldwide, damaging the prestige of the luxury brand.
