Not being FOUND!
As We Grow Older, It’s Not Being Alone That Scares Us… It’s Not Being Found. ❤️
There’s something we don’t talk about enough as we get older.
And it isn’t loneliness.
Because loneliness, when it is chosen, can be peaceful.
You learn to enjoy your morning chai by yourself.
To sip your coffee in silence.
To sleep diagonally across the bed.
To play your favourite music as loudly as you want.
To enjoy a quiet house without feeling the need to fill every corner with noise.
You discover that you don’t need a crowd around you to feel complete.
But there is another kind of fear.
The fear of slipping in the bathroom and not being able to get back up.
The fear of your body suddenly saying, “Enough,” while your voice goes unheard.
The fear of falling, lying on the floor, needing help — and realizing there is no one nearby to ask, “Are you okay?”
Because being alone and being abandoned are not the same thing.
We can be independent and still need someone.
We can love our solitude and still want a person we can call.
We can manage our own lives and still need someone to check in and say:
“Did you reach home safely?”
“How are you feeling today?”
“Do you need anything from the market?”
“Should I come over?”
These little questions may seem ordinary.
But as the years pass, they become something much bigger.
They become love in its simplest form.
Maybe we should all have at least one person who knows where we are.
Someone we can call when something goes wrong.
Someone who knows to check on us if we suddenly stop answering.
Someone who will come — not because we are helpless, but because we matter.
Independence is beautiful.
Being able to live your life on your own terms is a gift.
But there is another kind of freedom too:
The freedom of knowing that if you ever need a hand, someone will reach out theirs.
As we grow older, perhaps that is what we truly want.
Not someone to rescue us from our solitude.
Not someone to fill every quiet moment.
Just the comforting knowledge that if one day we whisper,
“I need help…”
someone, somewhere, will hear.
And they will come.
That is not dependence.
That is love.
That is care.
That is the kind of freedom we all deserve.
