TRY - Balancing on one foot!
Try this right now. It takes 10 seconds and tells you something real.
Researchers followed 1,702 adults aged 51-75 for about 7 years. At the start, each attempted to stand on one leg, unsupported, for 10 seconds. About 1 in 5 couldn’t.
Those who failed had roughly double the risk of death from any cause over the following years — even after adjusting for age, weight, and existing conditions.
Balance isn’t one thing. It’s your brain, inner ear, vision, nerves, and muscles coordinating in real time. When any part declines, it shows up here first. It also strongly predicts fall risk.
How to test it properly:
🦵 Stand on one leg, other foot resting against the standing calf
🦵 Arms at your sides, looking straight ahead
🦵 Stand near a wall for safety — no holding on
The good news: balance is highly trainable at any age. Practice while brushing your teeth — 30 seconds each leg, twice a day.
Most people never train balance because nothing tells them to. Now something has.
