We’ve all heard it: "The Great Wall of China is the only man-made object visible from space." Spoiler alert: It’s not true. NASA astronauts have confirmed this multiple times. From low Earth orbit, the Great Wall is actually almost impossible to see with the naked eye. Why? 1. Camouflage: The wall is built from earth and stone that matches the surrounding landscape perfectly. It blends in. 2. Width: While it is long, it is very narrow. Trying to see it from space is like trying to see a single human hair from across a room. What CAN you see? Astronauts can clearly see highways, airport runways, and definitely city lights at night. The "visible from space" story was a great marketing slogan for the Wall, but scientific reality says otherwise.
