Caring mother in Squirrels!

Female squirrels are among the few wild animals known to occasionally adopt orphaned young that are not their own. Researchers studying North American red squirrels discovered that when a baby squirrel loses its mother, nearby females, especially those related to the orphan, may take the infant into their nest and raise it alongside their own babies. Male squirrels, on the other hand, play virtually no role in raising offspring. After mating, males usually return to their solitary lives and do not help build nests, gather food, defend babies, or provide care. The mother handles every aspect of parenting alone, from giving birth and nursing to protecting the nest and teaching young squirrels survival skills.
