Rohini Nilekani, writer, former journalist, and a committed philanthropist, has been crowned India’s "Most Generous Woman" in the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2025. Nilekani, who chairs Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies, achieved this distinction by donating a substantial ₹204 crore in the measured financial year.
Her philanthropic work is deeply rooted in fostering systemic change, with her contributions channeled into crucial sectors such as education, gender equity, climate resilience, justice, and governance. Over the past five years, her cumulative donations have reached ₹763 crore. Nilekani is a long-standing advocate for giving back, having previously founded the Arghyam organization for water and sanitation and co-founded EkStep, a non-profit educational platform.
