When Yuri Gagarin — the first human ever to travel into space — was received by Queen Elizabeth II, tea was served in the traditional British way, complete with a slice of lemon.
After finishing his tea, Gagarin did something unexpected: he scooped the lemon out with his spoon and ate it.
The room fell silent. That move was definitely not covered in royal etiquette.
Without the slightest hesitation, the Queen calmly lifted the lemon from her own cup and ate it as well. One by one, everyone followed her example. And just like that, an unspoken rule was established:
