Drunk drives Army Tank on public road!
When "Happy Hour" Meets Heavy Armor: The Tank in the Middle of the Road
Some stories feel like they were written for an action-comedy movie. In 2019, residents of Pajęczno, a small town in central Poland, were shocked to find a Soviet-era T-55 tank parked casually on their main street. This wasn't a military parade or a historical reenactment—it was the result of a very drunk 49-year-old man taking a 36-ton war machine for a midnight joyride.
The story goes that the man was authorized to transport the tank on a trailer for repairs. However, the trailer broke down. Instead of calling for help, the man—who was later found to have a significant amount of alcohol in his system—decided to drive the tank off the trailer and through the town. He spent several hours cruising the streets before eventually parking it and heading into a nearby shop.
While the image shows a group of men looking jubilant on a tank (perhaps an AI-generated representation of the "spirit" of the event), the reality was a logistical nightmare for local police. The T-55 doesn't have a "valet" mode, and none of the officers knew how to drive it. They eventually had to hire a former soldier to move the tank to a secure location.
The man faced up to eight years in prison for "creating a direct danger of a land or water disaster." It’s a hilarious headline, but a sobering reminder of why heavy machinery and vodka don't mix. The "Pajęczno Tanker" has since become an internet legend, representing that specific brand of chaotic energy that only happens when someone says, "Hold my beer, I’ve got a tank."
