Meaning of Love!

A group of professionals once asked children between the ages of 4 and 8 a simple question: “What does love mean?” The answers they received were far deeper and more beautiful than anyone expected. Love is a grandfather painting his wife’s toenails when arthritis bends her fingers. Love is knowing your name sounds safe in someone’s mouth. Love is sharing your fries without asking for any back. Love is smiling at someone even when you’re tired. Love is tasting the coffee first to make sure it’s just right. Love is the quiet feeling in the room at Christmas when you stop opening gifts and simply listen. Love is wearing the shirt someone complimented—every single day. Love is not being scared on stage because your father is smiling and waving. Love is giving someone the best piece of chicken. Love is saying “handsome” even when the world says otherwise. Love is a puppy licking your face after you’ve been gone all day. Love is saying “I love you” often—because people forget. And perhaps the most powerful answer of all: When a little boy saw his elderly neighbor crying after losing his wife, he didn’t offer advice. He didn’t speak at all. He simply climbed into the man’s lap and sat with him. When his mother later asked what he had said, the boy replied, “Nothing. I just helped him cry.” Maybe love isn’t always something we explain. Maybe it’s something we do. Something we share. Something we feel quietly. Take a moment today to remember how children see the world. Be softer. Be kinder. Say it when you mean it. And for just one day… be a child again.
