Ending 'Bitterness' physically!
Scientists have found where bitterness is stored in the body - and after releasing it, even physical pain disappeared.
Scientists from Oxford conducted a study among patients suffering from chronic pain with no visible medical causes. It turned out that for most of them, resentment was literally “stuck” in the area of the diaphragm. MRI scans showed constant tension in the abdominal muscles — the body seemed to be “holding its breath” because of unexpressed emotions.
Secondly, when a person experiences resentment, their breathing changes: the chest tightens, oxygen intake decreases, and the brain interprets this as a signal of danger. In response, a stress-related hormonal reaction is triggered. Thus, resentment is not just an emotional state, but a physical spasm that keeps the body in defensive mode for years.
Thirdly, one neurologist noted: “As soon as a patient starts crying, the back pain goes away.” Tears, breathing, and voice are three natural outlets for emotions. If they are blocked, the body is forced to “carry” the pain inside itself. But once emotions are given an outlet, the body relaxes.
Fourthly, there is a simple exercise: place your hand under your ribs and take a deep exhale with a prolonged sound “aaa.” This is not meditation, but a physiological way to release tension. The brain receives a signal that the danger has passed, and at that exact moment, resentment loses its power.
Fifthly, it is impossible to get rid of resentment by willpower alone — it can only be exhaled. Because everything that remains unspoken is held not in the soul, but in the body.
Conclusion: as soon as breathing normalizes, past pain stops influencing us
