Clean energy to power civilization for 1,000 years!

Earth's crust holds enough clean energy to power civilization for 1,000 years. And scientists just found it. Earth's crust holds a staggering 6 trillion tons of naturally occurring hydrogen, potentially securing clean energy for the next millennium. A groundbreaking study published in Science Advances reveals that the planet may be sitting on a massive, untapped energy reserve of over 6 trillion tons of geologic hydrogen gas. Led by Geoffrey Ellis of the U.S. Geological Survey, researchers estimate that extracting even a tiny fraction—just 2%—of these underground reserves could satisfy the entire world's hydrogen needs for at least 200 years. This naturally occurring gas forms through deep-earth chemical reactions, presenting a vast resource that dwarfs current natural gas supplies and offers a transformative path toward global decarbonization. Unlike conventional industrial hydrogen, which requires significant energy to manufacture, this "gold" hydrogen is already present and waiting to be harvested. Recent discoveries in locations like Mali and Albania have proven that these pockets are accessible, though scaling extraction will require significant infrastructure development. If the energy industry can successfully tap into these geologic reserves, it would provide a nearly inexhaustible supply of clean-burning fuel, fundamentally reshaping how civilization powers its future while drastically reducing carbon emissions.
