Natural Sanatorium!
Hidden beneath the hills of Romania lies one of the most extraordinary underground places in Europe: the Slănic Mine. Located about 100 km north of Bucharest, this former salt mine has been transformed into a surreal underground attraction. 🇷🇴
⛏️ Although no longer used for salt extraction, the mine is open to visitors and features a naturally air-conditioned microclimate, with a constant temperature and atmospheric pressure all year round. The vast underground complex is divided into two levels: Unirea and Mihai.
😲 The mine contains 14 enormous trapezoid-shaped chambers, each reaching up to 54 meters high. The ceilings are just 10 meters wide, while the floors stretch to 32 meters, creating an underground cathedral carved entirely from salt. The mine descends 208 meters below the surface.
🌬️ Thanks to its incredibly pure, salty air, the mine has even been turned into a sanatorium for people with respiratory illnesses. Many visitors believe the clean, mineral-rich atmosphere can help with breathing and lung conditions. 🫁
🏛️ For more than 300 years, this underground world served as one of Romania’s most important centers of salt extraction. Today, it stands as both a historical landmark and a breathtaking destination unlike anywhere else on Earth. ✨
