“As long as possible, Be independent. Do your work - yourself”

While flying from Delhi to Mumbai, I came across a couple - must be above 75yrs.They were sitting beside me. On the flight I had opted for coffee while the old man opted for fruit-juice for himself and wife. The man was trying to open the lid of the fruit-juice can but didn't succeed. Must have tried for a few minutes. I lost my patience and offered to help them in opening the lid but I was very calmly refused since the gentleman did not wish to surrender. He tried for another few minutes and succeeded. And then I had an unforgettable piece of advice - “Help yourself since help is not the alternative at any point of time”. The gentleman and his wife had two sons, married and settled. Every second month the old couple used to plan to visit some or other tourist or religious place. They were away for 5-7days. Without any secondary help, they enjoyed their trip and returned home. It never disturbed anybody’s routine. Above all kept the old couple active and happy. Health, with age, is perfectly fine. Sometimes the juice bottle doesn't open. Put some breath on, So she opens up too. Message of living: “As long as possible, Be independent. Your own work– Do it yourself”
