Biogas from food-waste!

Bengaluru is exploring a new solution to tackle the ongoing LPG shortage by converting around 3,000 tonnes of wet waste generated daily into biogas. The city plans to process food waste from households, markets, and restaurants in biogas plants, producing a renewable cooking fuel that can be supplied to hotels and commercial kitchens. This initiative not only helps reduce dependency on LPG but also addresses Bengaluru’s growing waste management challenge. By turning organic waste into energy, the city can cut landfill waste, reduce methane emissions, and create a more sustainable urban waste system. If implemented at scale, the project could transform food waste into a reliable alternative fuel while supporting cleaner energy and better waste management across the city.
